Things To Do & Catering:

In-between your practice sessions and comp runs, we understand there is a bit of waiting around time. If you stay local, you can head back to your cabin etc, especially if its local like Hill of Oaks, but if you want to stay on site, the following is going down:

  • WC’s on site

  • Catering on site from Boaters Bar, including drinks, Hog Roast and Breakfast butties from 10am.

  • Ultimate Frisbee and Football matches (kids and big kids allowed)

  • SUP boards (bring your own if you want too)

  • Winch for wake skating or towing the kids on kneeboards

  • Sheltered areas, in case of our lovely British Weather

  • Pro Shop from Liquid Force with surfers and foils you can take out to demo. Feel free to go out for a ride on your own boat while waiting around. Just try and stay away from the competition boat, so as not to effect peoples practice and comp runs.

  • Mike from Malibu Boats will be on site to chat with people.

  • Jason from Midlands Nautique will be on site to chat with people.

  • Tons of other like minded people to chat with and meet, etc

  • During practice sessions, Christine, our chief judge will on site so you chat with her, etc

Rafting Up / Jetties:

Graythwaite Adventure is opposite Hill Of Oaks / Beech Hill areas, in the South Lake. You will see all the event flags, you will not miss it!

There is only 1 jetty on site and some space on here needs to be saved for the comp and practice boats. We will have some 5m long fender buoys, so that boats can moor next to each other on the jetty. But please arrive assuming that the jetty will be full.

If the jetty is full, you can raft up, or moor up in the sheltered bay. We will be on site to help with this, if needed. We will have plenty of lines on the land if you want to had a rear anchor to a point on the land. The best way to raft up, is drop a front anchor and then a 2nd rope to the shore. If boats raft up next to each other, we again have 5m long fender buoys that can go between boats, etc

Please note, we can help raft up, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the boat Captain to ensure your boat is moored / rafted up well.

Arriving by Car:

The event is taking place on the Graythwaite Estate, from Grubbins Point. To find us, please follow Google maps watersports which takes you down to the lake shore. Alternatively, if you have the what3words app please use ///cracking.loom.dangerously to find the entrance to the watersports drive. The estate spans over 5,000 acres and if you search ‘Graythwaite’ or follow the postcode that comes up (LA12 8BA) this is not where you need to be - it takes you to the main Hall, the family’s private residence, so please look out for the watersports entrance off the Hawkshead road and don’t turn in through the ornate estate gates.

Grubbins Point entrance has stone pillars with a red post box in the wall, it’s pretty much opposite the southernmost Hall entrance gates and has a Graythwaite Adventure Watersports sign at the entrance. Once through the gate, bear right signed Hullet Hall, drive down the track (rough in places) through the woods and to the lake shore where we’ve parking.

We will also install some Shred Time signs up at the entrance on the road.

What You Need To Bring:

Your wake surfer 

An impact vest

Wetsuit or shorts, a towel, etc

A ton of smiles and good vibes

Your crew to cheer you on and hoot for you

Food and drink if you want, but we have plenty on site too

Entry Cut Off - 12noon on Thursday 20th Sept

Format and Judging of Competition:

We will be onsite to talk to you all morning during practice, for any questions you have about judging and format. There will be a rider briefing at approx. 1:15pm to explain everything. In your comp run, you will have 3 falls, after the 3rd fall your run is over and a rescue boat will collect you and bring you to shore. The run will be marked out by large marker buoys and is approx. 45 seconds in 1 direction, stop while the boat turns and then 45 seconds in the opposite direction and back to the start / finish point. You can set your own speed, you can change the speed, you can request wake transfers from the driver, etc

For judging, we are bring up the most qualified wake surf judge in the UK, Christine Bickley. She is a great judge with experience and also absolutely rips on a wake surfer. Christine has been kind enough to share some info on the judging, which is below. From our point of view the best advice we can give, is just go out there and have a ton of fun and enjoy yourself. Here is some words from Christine:

Dear Competitors,

Hi, my name is Christine Bickley and I am an IWWF qualified wakesurf judge. I hope you’re looking forward to Saturday – it’s brilliant to see so many entries! If you haven’t entered a competition before this is a great place to start and we will make it as friendly as possible. It may help you to know what I and the other judges will be looking for. There are marks out of 10 for each of 4 categories

Execution – this is the quality of the tricks. Clean landings, high ollies, just the right amount of rotation, no wobbles if you can. A trick could be anything from carves, touching board and waving to big spins or 360’s, etc.

Intensity- this is how many tricks you pack in, even if it’s a simple board touch, crouch down and stand up or even a wave and a smile – keep those tricks coming!

Difficulty-this is a rating of how difficult your tricks are. Only tricks that are landed and ridden away count in the scoring but you don’t lose points if you don’t land it.

·Variety-try to avoid repetition if you have a selection of tricks but because this is a ‘grass roots’ competition we won’t be looking too closely if you do repeat a trick. If you can ride switch (back to the wave) or revert (fins forward) this is good to include. If you do the same trick but the board is in a different orientation it will count as a new trick. For instance, and ollie in regular and an ollie in revert will count as two different tricks.

You will be judged on two runs back to back. You will drop in at the end of the first run while the boat turns around which gives you a chance to get your breath back and to change the orientation of your board if you wish. You can change the orientation of the board after a fall too. You will be allowed 3 falls, but after the third fall you won’t be allowed to continue – this is the end of your go.

There will be a Competitor’s Briefing before the start of the competition where I will give you more information including very important safety info so please do make sure you are there in time. Don’t forget your impact vest as you won’t be allowed to compete without one. (if necessary, borrow one that fits you). I will also be on site during the morning practice runs and can chat with people then.

I look forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Christine Bickley
